Amazon Alexa Plus is Amazon’s next-generation virtual assistant, powered by generative AI. Unlike the current Alexa, which relies on pre-programmed responses, Alexa Plus can generate answers, hold natural conversations and even perform complex tasks across multiple apps and services. Think of it as an AI concierge for your home, capable of booking rides, managing schedules, controlling smart devices, and even helping in the kitchen.

Which Amazon Echo Devices Support Alexa Plus?

Not all Echo devices will get Alexa Plus right away. Amazon is rolling out early access to four Echo Show models with screens, as they provide the best experience for the new dashboard and animations. Here’s the list of compatible devices:

• Echo Show 21

If you own one of these devices, you’ll get early access to Alexa Plus starting next month. Amazon has also confirmed that Alexa Plus will eventually work on most Echo devices, except for first-generation models like the Echo Dot 1st Gen, Echo 1st Gen, and Echo Show 1st Gen.

For those without an Echo Show, Alexa Plus will also be available on:

If you have an Echo Show in your kitchen, Amazon Alexa Plus can help with meal planning. Share recipes, dietary restrictions, or grocery lists, and it will suggest substitutions, set cooking timers, and even add ingredients to your Amazon Fresh cart.

Amazon is introducing two new features for Kids Plus subscribers:

• Explore with Alexa: Kids can ask questions about geography, biology, and more, with Alexa responding in a conversational tone.

• Stories with Alexa: Kids can create custom stories by providing prompts, like “Alexa, create a story about a bearded dragon that plays the saxophone.”

Alexa Plus will be available for $19.99 per month, but Amazon Prime members gets it for free. 

Amazon Alexa Plus Release Date

Alexa Plus will begin rolling out in the U.S. in the coming weeks, with early access starting next month. International availability has not yet been announced, but we’ll update this article as soon as more information is released.

What About Older Echo Devices?

If you own an older Echo device that doesn’t support Alexa Plus, don’t worry—the original Alexa will still work. However, Amazon is clearly pushing users toward upgrading to newer models to take full advantage of Alexa Plus’s capabilities.
